General Secretary

As the general secretary, you would directly assist the Editor in Chief in all administrative duties at Pulse. Your primary responsibilities would include:

  • Monitoring and responding to emails.

  • Taking minutes at Team Lead meetings.

  • Organising and sending communications to our external and internal partners, including DUSA.

  • Assisting the Editor in Chief with on-boarding new team leads.

  • Assisting team leads with on-boarding new members of their teams.

  • Overseeing the Central Register.

Content Creator

As a social media content creator you would be primarily responsible for:

  • Creating social media posts for Pulse’s Instagram page to advertise newly published pieces, issues, and role applications

  • Creating Instagram stories and writing captions

  • Boosting social media engagement

  • Forming a professional yet fun perception of Pulse’s brand

  • Coordinating with the social media manager and design team

  • Aligning all social media posts with timing of publications

  • Creating hype for upcoming publications

  • Making Pulse stand out amongst our followers’ feeds

  • Being proactive in finding unique ways to engage with our audience and increase our visibility

  • Taking on constructive criticism where needed

Graphic Designer

As a design team member you would be primarily responsible for:

  • Creating magazine page designs for our digital issues each trimester

  • Reading incoming pieces deeply to make designs that respect the author’s intended message

  • Photographing or illustrating usable vectors and images (optional)

  • Sourcing royalty-free images for magazine issues and our website (the one you’re on right now!)

  • Listening to feedback and always looking to improve

  • Being flexible with production tasks and timelines

  • Communicating quickly and clearly with the design team

  • Coordinating with the social media team where needed

  • Coordinating with the design team leader

Editor

As a editing team member you would be primarily responsible for:

  • Review and edit articles for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and consistency

  • Ensure all content aligns with Pulse's editorial style, tone, and quality standards

  • Provide constructive feedback to writers to help strengthen their work

  • Fact-check information and verify sources where necessary

  • Collaborate with writers, designers, and fellow editors throughout the publication process

  • Assist with planning and organising magazine content for each issue

  • Identify opportunities to improve readability, structure, and audience engagement

Writer

As a member of the writing team, you may be responsible for the following on a regular or ad-hoc basis:

  • Creating written pieces for Pulse, fiction or non-fiction

  • Taking on particular topics from the Writing Lead or coming up with original ideas

  • Responding timely to feedback and calls for new pieces

  • Form a strong foundation of Pulse (we’re nothing without our writers!)
